best-performing States and Union territories in terms of environmental wellbeing.
Uttarakhand is followed by Himachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Sikkim, and
Andhra Pradesh on the Planning Commission’s Environmental Performance Index
(EPI) list. Environmental well-being is one of the considerations for devolution of
funds to the States under the Gadgil formula. Uttarakhand has been given a
cumulative score of 0.8123, followed by Himachal Pradesh (0.7316), Chandigarh
(0.7270), Sikkim (0.7149), and Andhra Pradesh (0.7147).

An Australian university has announced a scholarship named after legendary
cricketer Donald Bradman for Indian students. The scholarship is to be awarded to
an Indian student who wants to play the game and undergo study also. The
scholarship would be given to a student who demonstrates strong participation in
cricket. He will have half his or her tuition fees paid for the duration of a degree at the
University of Wollongong, near Sydney. The university is offering the scholarship
with the Bradman Foundation, a charitable trust established in 1987 to promote
cricket as a cultural and sporting force . Bradman, Australia's greatest sporting hero,
died in 2001 aged 92. He played his last match in England in 1948 and retired with a
yet-to-be topped Test batting average of 99.94.

ensure the shrinking of the basic digital switch at the heart of modern microchips for

molecules that have long held out promise as an alternative material to silicon from
which to create the tiny logic gates that are now used by the billions to create
microprocessors and memory chips. The IBM researchers have been able to
pattern an array of carbon nanotubes on the surface of a silicon wafer and use them
to build chips that are hybrids of silicon and carbon nanotubes with more than
10,000 working transistors.

release liquidity to the tune of around Rs. 17,500 crore into the banking system.
However, the RBI revised downwards the projection of GDP growth for 2012-13
from 6.5 per cent to 5.8 per cent.

enhanced the bed capacity of public health facilities exclusively for mother and child
care by a whopping 20,000 beds.To be implemented under the Reproductive and

have bad health indicators but a heavy patient load for institutional deliveries. The
Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has set a target of two to two-and-half years
for the additional infrastructure to become functional.In many cases, the beds will be

having to recuperate in the corridors will no more be seen.
