The Tripura government in a joint venture with ONGC and Tata Chemicals would set
up a Rs 5,000 crore fertiliser manufacturing unit in north Tripura district by using the
natural gas available in the state. With the commissioning of the project, the
demand for fertiliser will be met not only for Tripura but also for the entire north-east
region, West Bengal, Odisha and a large chunk of the fertiliser could be exported to
neighbouring Bangladesh.

The Southern Bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), the first permanent Zonal
bench, became operational in Chennai. It would cover four southern States and the
Union Territories of Puducherry and Lakshadweep.The guiding principles of the
Bench would be sustainable development, precautionary principle and the ‘polluters
pay’ concept. Of the over 400 cases filed and 250 cases disposed of by the
Principal Bench in New Delhi, the cases from the southern zone were dominant,
which could be due to high level of awareness. Already, environment-related cases
in the Green Benches of the High Courts of the southern States were being
transferred to the NGT’s southern zonal branch. NGT has got original and appellate
jurisdiction on matters pertaining to seven Acts related to water, air, forest
conservation, environment protection and biological diversity.

youngest Indian actress to receive the Padma Shri in 2009. She starred in the film

a jury member at Cannes.

emerged victorious with overall team championship title. It also bagged the best
overall female team championship award, whereas Haryana won the title of overall
male team championship award. The event witnessed the breaking of 14 national
records and 35 meet records. Rajendra Kumar Bind of Uttar Pradesh won the title of
best athlete.
